Tudor Roof Tiles, the UK’s foremost independent manufacturer of traditional clay peg and plain tiles, has developed a new range of handmade peg tiles with a naturally aged and distressed look suitable for listed buildings and older styled properties in conservation areas.

Ideal for Restoration or New Build

The new Restoration peg tiles replicate the single camber, subtle variation of tone and texture and the rough-edged appearance of old and reclaimed English peg tiles that have naturally aged and weathered on a historic roof.

Meticulous in their detailing, each tile is individually worked and formed, which gives them their own unique character. For further authenticity, an additional hand process has been introduced to produce slightly battered and distressed tail and side edges - a characteristic usually seen after many years of wear and tear and exposure to the elements.

The Restoration range is available in two naturally mottled and variegated tones: Chartwell, an earthy brown, and Ashburnham, a warm red, which can be blended on the roof to create a natural roofscape suitable for most oast house and barn conversions and a wide variety of other restoration projects.

As ancient English peg tiles were often irregular in size, the Tudor’s handmade clay peg tiles can also be supplied in bespoke and non-standard sizes, currently ranging from 8” x 4½” up to 12” x 7”, in order to better match the varied sizing requirements of historic buildings.

“At Tudor Roof Tiles, we are passionate about preserving the appearance of old and listed properties by offering genuinely handmade English clay peg tiles that are made locally from premium clays and sands using traditional home-grown craftsmanship,” said Paul Lythgoe, Managing Director of Tudor Roof Tile Co Ltd.

“Our new Restoration range combines traditional features of old English peg tiles with an extra level of detailing and authenticity, which adds even more character, individuality and extra value to our already a much sought after peg tiles. As with all our products, Restoration tiles are strengthened by advanced kiln firing techniques to give exceptional strength and durability.”

All Tudor’s handmade clay roof tiles are made in Britain in accordance with BS 1304:2013 and tested to BS EN 538:1994 for strength and to BS EN 539-2:2013 for frost resistance
