At Tudor Roof Tiles, the soul of our handmade products lies not only in the clay and kilns but in the hands and eyes of those who shape them.
Many of the staff at Tudor have vast experience, knowledge, and dedication for handmade plain tiles, gained over a lifetime of years and skills.
One such person is Will, our Factory / Production Manager, who had dedicated 34 years to the art of English tile making.
Starting work at Tudor in April 1991, and working in each department, he now literally has decades of experience in colour blending, clay preparation, and traditional firing methods which all lead to the high quality handmade roof tiles produced to this day.
Our latest colour range, the distinguished English Oak Blend required the full extent of Will's indepth knowledge in order to achieve the perfect balance of soft countryside tones — blended to reflect the natural, weathered look of traditional English roofs.
Throughout the process, he:
• Developed each colour and each phase of production, from clay selection to hand-pressing and kiln control, until he had achieved the required result.
• Applied and tested the production using traditional techniques passed down through generations of British tile making.
• Refined the blend through countless test firings to ensure it would harmonise beautifully with conservation area architecture and heritage buildings.
• Personally oversaw each phase of production, ensuring that the product was consistant in all aspects, especially quality and colour.
The result was & is not just a roof tile — it’s a reflection of decades of hands-on expertise and a lifetime commitment to preserving the art of handmade tile making in England.
When you choose the English Oak Blend, you’re not just choosing a colour — you’re choosing Tudor’s legacy.
