The simplest of details can often have the greatest effect.
Here, the inclusion of a few club tiles adds interest to an area of vertical tiling.
Club's have become the standard ornamental tile chosen for this type of detail. However, at Tudor tiles we do an array of many different types of ornamental tiles.
We also manufacture ornamental tiles to match existing... All made here in Britain.
If you are looking for hand made clay ornamental tiles for your next project, give us a call.

Handmade clay peg tiles used in a very traditional way, give a view that would have been very familiar to roofers of yesteryear.
For centuries, clay peg tiles hung from wooden battens or lathes, using wooden pegs would have been the norm.
The use of modern insulation and breather membranes means we rarely see the simplistic beauty of this very old form of roof tiling.
The process of hand making clay peg tiles has changed little over the years allowing conservation projects to be roofed in a sympathetic manner.

Before deciding to use valley tiles consideration must be given to the roof pitches either side of the valley.
Generally a pitch differential of up to 5 degrees can be overcome, and valley tiles can be used. Beyond this an alternative type of valley and material must be chosen.
Tudor make handmade clay valley tiles to match all of our standard tile colours at our factory in Kent.
Handmade clay roof tiles have been used in London and the South of England for many centuries.
The introduction of Gables or Tile and Half came much later.
Gables are primarily used to achieve the half bond across the span of the roof. They are also used to cut in on valley and hips details.
Occasionally you can still come across buildings due for a re-roof where half tiles or cut pieces were used.
These can be a very weak area on the roof, as they are mostly found at the verges, where they are prone to be dislodged by high winds due to their lack of fixing or deterioration of the mortar. Where possible these cut pieces should be replaced during the re-tiling by a gable tile which offers much more security and better weathering properties.
Tudor roof tiles manufacture handmade gables to match all the standard tile colours in their range. Handmade in Kent.

Ridge selection is often based on aesthetics. But the performance of the ridges is critical to the integrity of any roof.
Third round ridges (seen here on the left), are often used in place of traditional bonnet hips.
Half round ridges (far right) offer greater weather protection, and generally use less mortar on traditional roofs.
Hogs back ridges (center) generally work well on roof pitches between 40 and 45 degrees.
We have come across projects where the use of hogs back ridges has not been possible because of their lack of height clearance. So whether they are mortared down, dry fixed, or a combination of both, choosing the right ridge is an important consideration.
Tudor handmade ridges are available in all of our standard colours to match your tile choice.... .
Additionally, baby ridges and mono ridges are part of our standard range of fittings, all made in Lydd Kent..... contact us for details

Following a devastating fire at Firs House in Worcestershire left this beautiful grade 2 listed property without a roof or upper floor bedroom
Under the directions of historic building experts Nick Joyce Architects this 16th Century property was restored to it's former glory.
Tudor Roof Tiles were chosen to provide the genuine 'made in England' clay tiles for the roof covering, in order to stay as true to the original as possible.
With all tiles made by hand, the existing size of tiles were able to be fully replicated, but each tile meets all 21st Century quality and durability criteria.

Justin Sollis is attempting to do a 2,000+ mile bicycle ride from London to Athens in a 3 week time-frame.
Accompanied only by fellow bicycle enthusiast Steven Lock, they are currently in Italy having started on June 1st 2019. With only the equipment and needs they carry with them on their bikes, this feat of endurance is being done to raise funds for their charities.
“I am in awe of these two men, and absolutely admire their physical strength and mental determination. To ride over 2,000 miles, at a rate of 60 to 100 miles per day, for no greater self benefit than their own pride, and without any publicity, puts me to shame when I consider my own lack of exercise and widening girth.” says Paul Lythgoe, Managing Director at Tudor Roof Tiles.
A long time user of Tudor Roof Tiles, Justin clearly shows his praise of Tudor by wearing our logo proudly on his T-shirt. Thank you Justin and Steven.

Barnet Physic Well is a mineral water spring which was thought to have therapeutic qualities.
In the 17th century a resident well-keeper was appointed to supervised the use of the spring and by 1663, Barnet's water was being sold in pubs on the Strand by the barrel.
Samuel Pepys visited in 1664 to try the water, and found 'many people a-drinking'. In 1800 it was still declared that the water 'cleansed the system, cleared the skin and cured hangovers
Last year Barnet Physic Well underwent extensive refurbishment work, including re-roofing using Tudor's medium antique tiles. The wellhouse and was officially reopened by the Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Reuben Thompstone, on 20 November 2018.

Will McGinnis is the most important man at Tudor Roof Tiles when you want tiles made to a specific size or shape.
Often working with architects drawings, Will is responsible for making prototypes and then the final finished products.
Working at Tudor from 1991 his dedication shows, as time after time he goes above and beyond just doing a job, because he cares about the customer.
The Build It award given to Tudor this year is an absolute reminder of Will and his team's achievement.

Over the past few years, I have twice been asked by my team to submit Tudor roof tiles for consideration in the Build It magazine awards.
The first submission was in 2014, and was presenting Tudor’s traditional Handmade clay tiles. WE WON !
The second submission was this year (2018), and presented Tudor’s ability to Hand make clay roof tiles to bespoke sizes and designs. WE WON !!
We showed that Tudor were able to react without any delay, producing prototypes and then actual production. We achieved this in far less time than quoted by competitors, and were on average up to 40% cheaper in price.
So … this is all due to the excellent team we have at Tudor Roof Tiles, so my thanks to you all. You deserve these industry wide aclaims.
